This is a great watch! It's handsome, full-featured, durable and accurate. I highly recommend it as a great value.
This watch is perfect. It has everything anyone would need in a basic watch. I've charged it once since I got it and it's still running on that same charge for months since then without any drop in battery power at all. Easy to figure out once you read the manual. Most people complain of the watch's settings being too difficult to configure, but it is all clearly laid out in the manual if you can read it. It's comfortable, and light. It has many neat settings: you can display two time zones simultaneously, as well as many display options and functions. This is the last watch I'll ever need...
The watch seemed nice when I received it. But the instructions were very poor. I could not set the different functions as it was complicated. Either that or the watch was defective. I gave it to my son in law, thought he might figure it out. So far, I haven't seen him wear it. I can't recommend this item.
This is my third Casio Waveceptor watch I have owned. I have never had any problems with any of them. I work with the airlines and travel quite a bit. This watch has been exceptional wherever I have gone...keeping exact time in any time zone I am in.....and best of all, it is solar!!! I am very happy with it's performance and with all the Casio Waveceptor watches I have owned.
The watch arrived about a month ago Feb 2009 from Amazon already running and set to my Eastern [rural new York State Finger Lakes area] time zone. It's a very good choice for those men not looking for a dressy, expensive watch. No batteries and always correct, readable time and surprisingly light weight but rugged construction!
It arrived with time showing in the digital display. I want to see the day and date there instead of the digital time since the analog hands alaeady show time. Even though I have read the on-line, enlarged manual at http://ftp.casio.co.jp/pub/world_manual/wat/en/qw3311.pdf
several times I have not been able to reset the digital display to show day and date so I have sent an E-mail to Casio Support for help and am waiting to hear.

My wrist is small. The plastic band has eleven notches and I wear it at the fifth smallest notch which wraps the band around to within 3/4" of the other band end. Thus, a buttoned shirt sleeve may not slide easily over the double thickness of the band. One could cut the end of the band off but would lose the contours molded into the band end and the sliding band-end keeper [what is the correct name for that??] might constantly slide off the shorter band end. NOTE: I wish the many comments about this watch had addressed the band size more explicitly so that is why I spend time on it.
There is a metal band version of this watch but then you may have the need to adjust the size, catch your arm hairs, etc.
I'm keeping the watch and I still give it four stars because mine are minor issues that may not be problems for most purchasers.
Good Performer - After set up the watch works great. The only drawbacks are very poor directions as to initial set up and the band cant be changed to another kind. This is a large watch and if you have a small wrist you may want to consider another watch. The band is a one size fits all and leaves a lot of excess band hanging. Yes it has a catch to gather up the extra but it quickly becomes loose and the top of the band will catch on everything. You cant cut it off because the strap has a wider place on the end to keep the catch from sliding off the band. Other than that I like the watch and its functions a lot.
It is a good product with good price overall but the windows got a scratche after several days.
For those of you who are old enough to remember the blinking "12:00" on the VCR, you know that the most hated part of owning an item with a clock was setting that clock. And invariably, the smaller the item, the less accurate it was. I once had a watch that strayed a few minutes every week. If I didn't keep up on it, I could be off by 10-15 minutes in a month.
Well, my clock-blinking friend, those days are over. The Casio WaveCeptor WVA430J-1 is, hands down, one of the finest watches I have ever had the pleasure of owning. It is the lazy man's dream: atomic (radio) setting means you never have to set it, and solar means you never need to change a battery. That alone sells it for me. But add in the other features, and you have a real winner here.
STYLING: The watch is a looker. It's functional without being gawdy. These radio-controlled watches used to be huge and bulky, or they looked halfway-decent, but were completely non-functional, save for telling the time. This one strikes that perfect balance between usability and good looks. Its black resin band is standard faire for watches, but around the outer face of the watch is a brushed silver bezel which offsets the black band and the (nearly) black face (I'll get there in a second) very well. The watch hands are white with luminous insets, and the second hand is red with a very small luminous inset. One gripe: the watch does not offer light on the hands, but that's easily overcome. Below center is a small LCD window which offers nearly all the functions you need in a good watch.
FUNCTIONALITY: One of the things I was looking for in an atomic watch was some usability. I didn't want to sacrifice the functionality for the radio setting ability. This watch delivers nearly all the functionality of a standard digital watch: world time, three daily alarms, hourly chime, and stopwatch. The small LCD displays the following:
Timekeeping (home screen): The time in digital (useful in the dark, since the hands are not lit), the day of the week and the date, and the seconds along with the last signal strength of the auto calibration.
Battery status: The watch will show you the status of its rechargeable battery on the first function press. If the watch battery drops in power, power saving functions step in and disable things like audible beeps, watch hand movement, auto radio calibration, etc. The solar panel (well-disguised on the face of the watch; really difficult to see) will recharge the battery very efficiently. 5 minutes in direct sunlight will power the watch for a full day of normal functions. So if you leave the watch on a windowsill for better radio reception (we'll get there later), you'll probably get your 5 minutes first thing in the morning.
World Time: Set the timezone, and you're done. The world time function also follows the main timekeeping time, plus or minus the offset for the timezone.
Alarms: The watch offers three daily alarms and an hourly chime (called "signal").
Stopwatch: Your standard stopwatch. Nothing major. Offers start/stop and split timing.
Hand-setting screen: The analog hands follow the digital time, but you can manually set the hands to a different time if you so choose (why you would want to do this, I don't know).
RADIO CONTROL: The watch is atomic (which means it receives a radio signal from the "atomic" clocks throughout the world. There are two of them; the watch chooses the appropriate one based on the timezone you set. It calibrates itself five times a day during the night, when signal reception is best. It runs automatically at midnight, 1, 2, 3, and 4 AM. It will run once more at 5 AM if none of the others was able to get a good signal. It will then use the best quality signal of all five time settings to set the clock. They suggest you leave it by a window for best reception. It works like a CHAMP. Granted, I live in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and the signal which reaches the entire country is broadcast from Ft Collins, Colorado (about 100 miles away), so I can be anywhere in my house and I get full signal. But if you live a little further away from the signal, I would definitely suggest leaving the watch near a window.
CONS: There are a few things that are missing. I wish it had a countdown timer, a very useful feature. I'll get along just fine without it, it's just a wish. Also, I would like to see it have some sort of night lighting on the hands, not just on the LCD screen. I understand why there is no lighting on the hands: the solar panel makes it impractical. And you can get by by switching the LCD to show the time and then lighting the LCD. Minor gripes, to be sure, but those things would make this watch 100% perfect.
OVERALL: I couldn't ask for more in a watch. Solar, atomic, and it doesn't look like a pig. Fabulous.
This watch (Casio)as far as I am concerned is an excellent buy. Sorta hard for a old man to figure out, but once you have it is great.

Ordered this watch online and received the watch within the promised delivery time. The watch is good looking and operates well. The hands and numbers are easy to read along with the button to illuminate the digital clock window when there is no ambient light. There are alarms, a stopwatch, time zones, and calendar date. The only feature I have not been able to set-up is the day of the week and I can't seem to have the day/date stay on all the time. It only seems to work momentarily. I like the fact that I will not have to replace a battery in the future due to the solar cell which charges the watch as long as the face sees the light of day or illumination from an artificial source. I have had great success with Casio watches in the past and I expect the same performance with this watch too. I would recommend this watch to a friend.
