I have to concur with all the positives that people have written about this little gem. What I will emphasize is the size of the watch. Most G Shock, solar, atomic timed watches sit with a lot of bulk on your wrist. Too much bulk to be comfortable. But this watch is smaller sized.
I was going to purchase a similar Casio watch for about $30 less, but opted for this one because of the anticipated comfort and aesthetic appeal on my wrist. Even with the price differential, I am very pleased with this purchase.
I would also like to add that this was purchased from MyTimepiece.com and their delivery was very fast. I ordered this on Monday, it shipped on Tuesday, and I received it on Thursday. Such things impress me.
First off let me say I rarely review items. In fact this is probably the 2nd item I have ever reviewed on Amazon and I am an avid shopper here. Ill keep this short and to the point. Recently decided I wanted to start wearing a watch again as I was tired of digging for my cell phone in my pocket. I am a 1 watch kind of guy and I usually keep things for a very long time. Needed something rugged but not bulky with a set it and forget it mentality. This watch hit all the points flawlessly, highly recommend it.
I ordered this watch on 1-16-09, my predicted date of arrival was 1-22-09 thru 1-27-09. I got the watch at my residence on 1-20-09! I wore one of the orignals back in the day when I was in 1st Ranger Battalion. Bought my 1st G-Shock while in Desert Phase of Ranger School in 1994. It was an early model as it still had just the regular light bulb, not the EL Backlight. It was my favorite watch ever until it tore off my wrist during a parachute jump over Florida one night(Long story, not the watches fault). I then was given the 6600 model which worked well for years. I wore a few other models through the years and finally went back to a 5600 model. I have also purchased the 5600-j(not as good as this one) model wich is the other atomic solar model. I was waiting patiently for this one to be available as it resembles the orginal so much(it has the date and day present at all times along with facial print resemblence.) So far I am very happy with this watch!!! G-Shocks are the TOUGHEST Watch you can buy. The (original)5600 model is the watch that most U.S. Army Rangers wore back in my day!!!
I had a G-Shock when they first came out 25 yrs. ago. I put it through it's paces while in the military and ended up giving it to a friend who was in need of such a tough watch. A few years later when I took the time to look at the G-Shocks again I was surprised to see how greatly the styling had changed. Gone were the rugged-looking squared off edges and straight lines, replaced instead by near-bizarre looking faces with all sorts of whistles and bells. I was therefore glad to see Casio recently offer up a few "throwback" models. In addition to the ruggedness and great styling, the solar powered aspect is a really comforting thing--it charges effortlessly; the battery has a much, much longer expected life than a typical quartz one; it keeps quartz-like accuracy; and you're "going green" with a watch like this. Add to all of this the middle-of-the-night signal adjustment from Ft. Collins (mine receives it's signal almost every night, even if I'm wearing it while sleeping) and it's tough to think of a better looking, better performing digital watch.
This is the ultimate watch if you are on a budget, never have to set the time again and not worry about looking for a battery change. Since the casio is solar powered and receives atomic updates whenever it can. I found it a really useful beater watch and you wouldn't have to worry about wrecking it since it's a gshock.
