Casio Men's G-Shock Riseman Alti-Therm Solar Atomic Watch #GW9200-1

I bought this Riseman, I enjoy it and I'm going to keep it. Most of all, it's a G-Shock, so I know that I can swim in the ocean or ski in cold weather and nothing will happen to the watch or the waistband. Just don't try to throw it from the third floor. My previous G-Shock did not survive it ( You could do this with G-Shocks from the 80's, but not now).

Ok, this is the upside. On the downside, if you think rationally, you don't really need the pack features this watch has.

Solar battery that lasts forever and works up to 5 months without recharge? Awesome, but a regular battery will serve 5-10 years and the chances are high that you will replace the watch before this. And instead of just wearing your watch you now have to take care that it is exposed to daylight and your sleeves do not cover the solar panel.

Atomic radio sync? Great! I have recently spent an hour on the street on a cold night trying to acquire the synchronization signal manually. It didn't work in my apt. I live in NYC, most likely this is the problem. Probably the sync will work alright in less populated area. But again, with a regular watch you spend 30 seconds every 3-6 months to adjust the time. This takes nearly as much effort as to put your Riseman facing the window overnight (required to get the sync according to the manual)

Thermometer? The watch should be off your hand for about 20 minutes if you want to get a realistic reading. If you are hiking and suddenly want to check the temp, you will get a mix or outside temperature and the temperature of your body unless your take the watch off and wait for it to cool down.

Altimeter? Works nicely. But if you have a GPS navigator like Nuvi, you already have a better altimeter that does not need to be recalibrated when atmospheric pressure changes.

The bottom line is that Riseman is a very cool gadget. It looks great, it feels great on your hand and it has an awesome set of features. I am honest to myself that I don't need most of them. So if you are a very practical person give it a miss. If you just want a cool gadget - buy it, that's all I can say.

P.S. world time is very convenient; compared to Pathfinder, there is no compass

My brother is in the Marine Corps and when I saw his old watch I realized he needed something tough. His old watch had fallen apart due to physical beatings (the face was cracked) exposed to the elements (at the time he was stationed in Arizona)and the band was cracking.

I did research and came across the G-Shock. I read reviews for different models all over the internet and saw a lot of military personnel (both active and retired) give this watch rave reviews. It had the perfect amount of features (not too much, not too little) and wasn't flashy and followed his dress code for when he wears his Dress Blues and is lighter than it looks.

My brother got it for Xmas 08 and he has no complaints whatsoever. This watch has been subjected to the same abuse as the other (even more now that he is stationed in Afghanistan)and still looks new. The other guys on his base even liked it and went out and bought their own.

My brother says I found the perfect watch and I highly recommend it to others in the military.

Very good functions and the altimeter is pretty good. The thermometer is not so acurate which is probably in my opinion the only negative point. All other features are good.

Great features watch, especially the 5 alarms because I have meetings everyday, and with the alarm reminder is very helpful. All the measurement on the watch are pretty accurate. There is only one thing i didn't like about the watch is that the sound of the alarm is low compare to other G-Shocks.

This is a great watch, and I really enjoy the barometer and altimeter features. Be aware that this particular version (-1DR) does not feature atomic timekeeping; that was the only disappointment. On the other hand, it runs really accurate, so it's not that important.

Had the watch for about a month. It receives the time via radio signal from Colorado every night without a hitch no matter where or how I have the watch overnight. It's comfortable and not super huge like some of the other feature packed watches out there. The thermometer works fairly accurately. I work in a lab and compared it to several therms at different temps. It is +/- 2 deg F. If your looking to buy this watch for the altimeter, don't. It is not accurate and not consistent. Sometimes my house is at 600 feet and sometimes it is at 640 feet. The true altitude is close to 800 feet. The watch can be calibrated but if it is off at 1 month old...It is a nice water resistant, atomic, solar watch with some cool features that sort of work.

The Casio G-Shock Riseman is an excellent choice for G-Shock fans. Although the pictures make the watch look big, it is surprisingly smaller than most of the regular men's g-shock line. (I wouldn't call it small, but thinner than the normal G-shocks.) It also is lighter than the traditional g-shock watches.

The quality of the watch is excellent, featuring polished aluminum for the light button as well as strong resin for the casing.

The watch is comfortable on your wrist whether left or right handed and doesn't feel bulky under a jacket.

THe feautres of the watch is where its at...! I have loved my old path finder watches, but the size and features of this g-shock, make me perfer it over a traditional path finder, although I wish it had a compass. On the other hand, you have a stop watch which works with the altimeter to give statistics such as cumultive descent/ascent, max/min values, etc... The watch features a recorder so you can save your climbing runs and look back to them to show improvements. I like the power save mode on this particular solar watch because it is all automatic. The watch shuts down after an hour in the dark, although it keeps the sensors running unless it is out for an extended period of time, in which it will eventually shut off the sensors. When it encounters light again, it resumes out of power save mode. The automic time keeping is the best to-date as far as reception goes. On the older models, you would really have to keep the watch near a window in order for it to perform time syncing, but this G-shock even works in the house away from a window. The barometer/temp sensor works well and I do love the red eye graph for viewing altimeter readings and barmoeter readings. The blocks within the eye are actual meaurements so each block in the red eye in altimeter mode equates to 40 ft. The alarm on it could be a bit louder like some of the path finder watches, but it is in line with the rest of the g-shock line from what I have had.

Overall, I am VERY pleased with the watch and the features. It is one watch I don't regret buying and I am sure will please most buyers. Just can't wait till the next verion comes out (hopefully with even more features, like a compass...)

Regards...
Mo

By bringing together the toughness of a G-Shock and the core features of a Pathfinder/ProTrek, the Riseman is doubtlessly the best G-Shock on the market.

The Riseman is a technological tank: wrapped in a solid, eye-pleasing, and elaborate shield with brushed steel inserts is a high precision measurement instrument that gives very reliable readings of barometric pressure, altitude, temperature as well as reasonably accurate weather patterns. Fascinatingly, the watch gets its energy from the sun (or other minor sources of light, such as a bulb) and is the first watch in the world to synchronize time via radio waves from 6 different atomic clocks around the world (depending on your location). Other handy features: 24+ world times, 24hr stopwatch, 24hr countdown and 5 alarms.

The use of screen space in the main timekeeping mode is exceptional as it includes, besides the time, day & date, a 2-hourly reading of atmospheric pressure within the "red eye". This gives you an immediate idea of where the weather is going and adds a totally new spin on owning a watch that measures atmospheric pressure. The time is also displayed in all modes (except the altim.)

I found the Riseman extremely comfortable to wear throughout the day even in hot/humid weather thanks to the design of the band and despite its important size it is rarely invasive. The overall feel of the watch in your hands, and on your wrist, conveys the high quality of the materials used to achieve toughness as well as its unique look.

With its Gotham City inspired design, its cutting-edge features and its "battle proven" armor, the G-Shock GW9200 Riseman is definitely destined to become a milestone and a classic Master of G.
