Casio Men's Waveceptor Atomic Dual-Time Watch #WVQ400J-1

Product Description

The casio Men's Waveceptor Atomic Dual-Time Watch #WVQ400J-1 combines convenient, athletic attributes and sophisticated styling. With a stainless steel case and bezel, a black resin band, and a black dial, this timepiece is a fashionable, durable choice for everyday wear. Its unique face includes three subdials, small white indices marking each second, faceted silver-tone indices marking each hour, three hands, and luminous accents. A small, digital display at four o'clock provides added functionality, while a window made of acrylic acid resin protects the face. This watch is water resistant to 330 feet and is backed by a one-year manufacturer warranty.

I purchased this watch about 2 months ago, and I wear it every day, and really like it. I also have another Casio WaveCeptor watch, and compared to it, this one will not synchronize as dependably. If left in a window it will synchronize every night, but only about 50% of the time if left in a dresser drawer or in the medicine cabinet. The other WaveCeptor I own (which ironically was much less money - it's all digital), will synchronize in the basement!
The main issues is the crystal - the piece of clear plastic or glass that covers the dial. On this watch it is not made of fine glass, but rather of plastic, and will scratch. I have generally found that watches that cost over about $30-50 will have a glass mineral crystal, so it's very surprising that a watch that almost hits $100 will have a plastic crystal, and a soft one at that. My advice, get the watch, enjoy it, in a year or two when the crystal is beat up, get a jeweler to replace it with a true glass mineral crystal - about $30.

I bought this watch to replace my Citizen Skyhawk which I thought was a little too heavy for me. I love the fact that it is solar powered, just as the Skyhawk. However the Atomic has a backlight and syncs with Fort Collins for always updated time. This works very well (I live in the Midwest). It is waterproof and I wear it swimming frequently. Nice size and weight for the watch.

Customer Buzz
A good value in an attractive package but with serious limitations.

Pros:

Very impressive appearance. Three small dials and LCD window, sweep second hand. Excellent timekeeper with automatic updating through Waveceptor capability. Automatic or manual dial illumination is excellent for nighttime use.

Cons:

Stopwatch function. (1) Elapsed minutes are not displayed except on the left small dial that's marked in 5-minute intervals. Between these tics, you have to guesstimate minutes from the tiny dial. (2) The upper small dial measures 1/20th-second intervals during the first minute of stopwatch operation. While it spins impressively for that minute, it serves no other useful function as the LCD window displays 1/100th-second intervals continuously. (3) There is no lap-time function; the stopwatch is on or off.

Date function: The only display is the date (e.g. "4") in the LCD window. There is no display for day-of-week or month name. This is an inexcusable omission.

Alarm function: To set the alarm, you must select the alarm time by holding one of the buttons while the watch fast-forwards from 12:00 a.m. If you overshoot, you can't back up, and must go around again. This is unacceptably clumsy and inconvient.

Other: (1) Plastic crystal can scratch easily. (Casio's mineral crystal is virtually scratchproof. Too bad it isn't on this watch). (2) The rubber-like plastic band isn't replacable, so you have to live with it. (3) The 75-page user's guide is often dense and confusing, and the type is so tiny that it's very hard to read.

Summary: There are no significant features in this timepiece that aren't available in less-expensive Casio watches, often with more detail (day, date, month display) and more convenient (alarm setting). That said, this is a very sexy watch and is sure to impress folks who don't know much about its innards.

Recommendation: If high-tech is the goal, not likely to find anything truly capable under $200. If convenience and timekeeping features are priority, there are better Casios at a lower price. This watch makes too many compromises for the sake of looks.

I bought this for my husband. The watch is very comfortable, precise, and sophisticated looking. He has had it for a few months now and has nothing but good things to say.

Customer Buzz
I was momentarily pleased with this watch when it arrived from Amazon. It was solid, and the movement was very nice. It had a good feel and seemed to be well constructed. It was larger than I imagined it would be. I'm making the assumption that I would have liked the watch a lot.

However, the Casio Box was torn open, the watch was scratched, the band was worn and soiled, and there was hair clinging to the watch. Obviously, someone had worn it for quite some time, returned it, and the vendor decided to just ship it out again.

I didn't bother to make an exchange - I was so disappointed with the sale that I took my refund and my business elsewhere.

Casio Men's Waveceptor Atomic Sport Watch #WV58DA-1AV

This is a great watch for the price. It is no g-shock. It will not stand up to major physical abuse. But for [..] you cant go wrong.

The watch is a excellent buy. It works well and with its ability to sync to WWV it is very accurate. It even changed when daylight savings time changed.

This is my third WaveCeptor costing anywhere from $250 to this $35 version and they all have cheap fragile bracelets that break amazingly easily.

The bracelets are made of cheap metal and are just irritating enough but also they've never included "half links" to truly fit the watch for your wrist.

Because the bracelets are comprised of all single size links, it is nearly impossible to comfortably fit this watch since the single sized metal links will always leave a noticeable gap that lets the watch slide into and bang up your wrist bone, or you'll have to make it too tight and so uncomfortable it will begin to imprint itself into your skin.

The parts of the bracelet which seem to be most delicate are where the bracelet connects to the clasp since the cheap metal sides of those connecting links always weaken before breaking off and sometimes leaving sharp edges which have to be grinded off with a Dremel.

Since the bracelets are part of the antenna mechanism, it is impossible to replace the bracelet with an aftermarket or accessory bracelet you can buy for any other wristwatch at any retailer including Target and WalMart.

Casio seems to be in denial about this problem since when I've asked them about this while the watch is warrantied, they just insist I send in the entire watch and let them replace it with a refurbished model and they don't sell their unique replacement links and on some models won't even offer an entirely new bracelet.

They don't have online access to replacement parts, insisting you either email them or telephone them, after being on hold forever you end up trying to describe the broken watch link to someone who you have to wonder even knows what a wristwatch is because they seem incapable of even understanding the term "watch clasp".

I offered to email pictures of the watch, clasp and broken parts all assembled and disassembled and they refused to provide individual email addresses and just described a general shared inbox they can't guarantee they'd receive the attachments and I may have to respond to some rep over email despite the fact I've just spent 90 minutes over the phone with this guy !!!!

On some models, you have to buy an entirely new bracelet even if you just want to replace a few parts and can even describe them and get them to confirm which part you're mentioning while on the phone with their reps.

I purchased this watch as I needed an accurate watch for work. A watch that gave the absolute correct time. I've had such a watch in the past but it was a cheap looking plastic watch, keep accurate time though. This watch replaced that watch. Accurate is accurate and this watch qualifies in that regard. What I like about it is that it is a much nicer looking watch, metal case and nice metal band. It has all the basic function such as stop watch, countdown timer, alarms, etc. For an inexpensive accurate watch that doesn't look like it, this watch is a good deal.

Customer Buzz
I bought this watch for my dad who always has trouble setting the time. It automatically sets the time for him. The quality is typical Casio...crystal face, durable case and band. I love my Casio, this is my 3rd for my family.

Customer Buzz
Seems like a good watch but is kind of big. Also the strap is stiff and longer than what I need. Haven't used it much because of this.

Customer Buzz
I ordered this watch expecting to get what the site described and pictured -- a metal band. A resin banded watch arrived instead for the same price, so I send feedback and accepted a discount. I like the watch features, I was just hoping for a metal band.

Customer Buzz
I ordered the pictured stainless steel watch, was sent a plastic one, called amazon, was sent another plastic one and no one could resolve it. I returned the two plastic ones and moved on.

If you like inexpensive digital watches that keep time to the nearest second, you can't go wrong here. The great part is that you never have to set it as long as it can pick up the signal from the national atomic clock. A radar icon on the face shows that is doing so. The only drawback is that it comes with a very large band, which I had to take to a watch repair place and have shortened.

Customer Buzz
Watch was received fast and in excellent condition. It performs as advertised and is easy to use. I had a resin band before, which was hard to find a replacement for, which lead to purchasing the metal band watch.
